A consultancy built on asking better questions
We founded Tessera Works because we noticed a gap: too many Malaysian SMEs were being sold digital tools before anyone had taken the time to understand whether those tools were actually suited to their work.
Back to HomeHow Tessera Works came to be
Tessera Works was established in Kuala Lumpur by a small group of practitioners who had spent years working inside and alongside Malaysian businesses at moments of significant operational change. What we saw, repeatedly, was that the technology side of those changes received abundant attention, while the organisational side — the culture, the routines, the unspoken ways people actually did their work — was treated as secondary.
The name comes from tessera, the individual tile unit in mosaic work. A single tile tells you little. It is only when you understand how each piece relates to the others that the composition becomes clear. We approach digital change in the same way: by understanding each part of an organisation before forming any view about what should change.
Our practice is small by design. We work with a limited number of clients at any one time, which allows each engagement to receive the attention it deserves. We do not employ a team of junior staff who will do the work while senior partners attend the kick-off meeting. The people you speak with at the start are the people who will carry out the work.
We are based at Q Sentral in Kuala Lumpur, though much of our work takes us to client offices across the Klang Valley and occasionally further afield within Malaysia.

Standards we hold ourselves to
Commercial independence
We hold no referral or reseller arrangements with technology vendors. Recommendations are based entirely on client need.
Confidentiality
Client information, internal documents, and findings are held strictly confidential. We do not use client work as case studies without explicit written consent.
Senior-led delivery
The consultants you meet during scoping are the consultants who carry out the work. We do not delegate engagements to junior staff once a project begins.
Clear scope and pricing
We agree the scope and price before any work begins. If something falls outside the agreed scope, we discuss it openly rather than expanding billing silently.
Honest findings
Our review findings reflect what we actually observe. If digitalisation is not the right next step for your organisation, we will say so plainly in our report.
Data protection
We handle personal data shared during engagements in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA) and our own data handling procedures.
Digital consulting that starts with understanding
Digital transformation in Malaysian SMEs rarely fails because of technology. It more often fails because the people using the technology were not well understood, or because the tools selected solved a different problem from the one that actually mattered. Tessera Works was established to address precisely this pattern.
Our consultants bring experience across financial services, manufacturing, distribution, professional services, and retail. We understand that each sector has its own rhythms, its own regulatory considerations, and its own workforce dynamics. We do not apply a single diagnostic framework regardless of context.
The mosaic metaphor shapes how we work. Each element of an organisation — its people, its processes, its current tools, its leadership culture — is understood on its own terms before we attempt to see the wider picture. This careful approach takes longer than a standard survey-and-report methodology, but it produces findings that are actually useful to the organisations we serve.
